Kit for the determination of microglobulin Beta 2 (B2m) in urine on routine biochemical analyzers. The kit includes a reagent, a calibrator and a control.
Elevated serum B2m levels are due to either increased production or decreased glomerular filtration rate, which determines its accumulation. An increased rate of synthesis can be caused by many different diseases, especially diseases of the lymphoid immune system, hematological malignancies, viral infections, autoimmune diseases and others. Therefore, B2m is not used as a specific diagnostic marker for any particular pathology, but rather is widely used as a quantitative prognostic marker in many diseases. To give just one example, measurement of B2m levels is included in the international staging system for multiple myeloma.
Measurement of urinary B2m concentrations is a very sensitive marker of tubular dysfunction from any cause or pathology. Although as a tubular marker it suffers from problems of instability in an acidic environment (pH<6) and variable production levels.
Applications for commonly used biochemical analyzers available (Advia®, Alinity C, AU®, Atellica™, cobas® C, Optilite®, Mindray and others).
