Kit for the determination of factor B (also C3 proactivator) on routine biochemical analyzers. The kit includes a reagent, a calibrator and a control.
Although rare, factor B (FB) deficiency, when it occurs, compromises the activation of the alternative complement pathway, which is essential for defense against bacterial infections (especially Neisseria).
Decreased FB levels commonly indicate activation of the alternative complement pathway. FB measurement is useful in the diagnosis of certain types of kidney disease (such as chronic glomerulonephritis or lupus nephritis), skin diseases (such as dermatitis herpetiformis or pemphigus vulgaris), rheumatoid arthritis, sickle cell disease, and some other infections, such as gram-negative infections.
Applications for commonly used biochemical analyzers available (Advia®, Alinity C, AU®, Atellica™, cobas® C, Optilite®, Mindray and others).
